About

Hi, I’m Saemmul!

Pronounced [SEHM-mool], in case you’re wondering. πŸ˜€

I’m a Korean living in Singapore with my husband, and I share my cooking journey and miscellaneous stories on social media. Follow me so we can connect!

A little bit more about me

So how did I get started doing this? It’s a long story, but let’s begin from the start.

I was born in Seoul, South Korea, but moved to New York when I was two and lived there until I was twelve. English was my first language, and one I was quite proficient inβ€”meaning I loved reading and writing and anything to do with language in general. I thought I’d end up becoming a linguist or maybe an English teacher, but life somehow brought me down a path of translation, which I’ve done for more than ten years. During which I fell in love with my now husband Nicolas, and decided to uproot my life and follow him to Singapore in 2022.

Fun fact: we didn’t have a wedding due to COVID, only a simple photoshoot at a nearby park after we got married!

Then what about the cooking videos?

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but they say translation is a dying industry now that AI is getting so good. Plus, it’s a grossly underpaid profession and your income is directly proportionate to the exact amount of work you put in, so I knew it wouldn’t be sustainable. I had some experience with video editing back in 2019, when I made a YouTube channel teaching Korean to see whether I might want to take a shot at being a Korean teacher in Singapore (eventually I decided against it because I’m an introvert). And since I was cooking a lot at home, I decided to try sharing my meals on social media as a hobby. Fast forward to today and I’m hardly making any money as a content creatorβ€”but I’ve grown a decent following, which gives me hope that I might be able to make a living out of this if I keep at it for long enough.

So that’s my story in a nutshell. πŸ™‚ Here’s to following your dreams and never giving up. If you want to chat, drop me an email at saemmulsong@gmail.com. Cheers!
